Wzup my people!!! It’s ya girl Ms. Nore! I want to talk about what’s going on in music. I listen to a lot of music. Lately I’ve been so disappointed with the quality of music that is being released. It seems like artists’ are so concerned with quantity, Sound scan, generating a profit & numbers that they rush these albums. The mentality has become, “I’m hot now so I’ll drop an album & the fans will buy it”. When you listen to the music it sounds so incomplete and rushed. When I buy music…& spend my money… I want you to tell me something about you as an artist that I haven’t heard. Tell me something about you I don’t know. Speak to my soul. The writing has become so simplistic and nursery rhyme-like. It seems acceptable as long as the beat is hot. Lean wit it, Rock wit it, snap wit it, shake this, drop this, pop this, let me see yo grill, does yo chain hang low, I know you see it…No I don’t. After all is said and done, where is the fulfillment & substance? What are you saying about yourself as an artist? What are you giving the community that’s supporting you? Much of what we listen to, produced by the commercial media is “fantasy land” music. It’s not reality for most of the fans or for many of the artists. As an artist you rent a mansion and cars for a video shoot that goes back to their rightful owners at the end of the day. All the women in the videos are paid to stand with you and sell the fantasy that you are just that irresistible. I like artists that use metaphors and analogies. It shows they actually use a dictionary and a thesaurus and know how to use the words properly. I like to be taken on a mental journey when I listen to music. I love listening to songs with several different interpretations and not just the obvious one. Like Pac’s “Me and My Girlfriend”, “Sunshine” by Lupe Fiasco (Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor…Lyrically one of the best new artist, though he’s been in the industry grinding for like 10 years…go get it), Common, “I Used to Love Her”, and “Mind Sex” by Dead Prez just to name a few. Beats are cool, but to me lyrical content is the utmost important factor for a quality album. An idle mind is a waste of time.
First let me give you a little background about me. I have a Masters degree in Communications & I am currently work as an Admissions Liaison at a University. Since my educational background is in Communications, Sociology and writing its only natural that I have so much to say and a lot to express.
